Hyatt Michaels was the very first person at the other end of my microphone for this project. He was affable, generous and absolutely game to talk.
The story he told of losing everything in a fire absolutely stopped me in my tracks.

Catherine was expressive in body and voice. Her advice on Port Authority: “You just have to stand here and wait until a bus comes.”
She was right.
I met Catherine Davis on Thanksgiving, in the unbearably orange bowels of the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York. She was a delight to talk to.
